Jessica Simpson covers the February issue of Redbook. (Matt Jones)
We've known Jessica Simpson for more than a decade thanks to her chicken or fish debate about tuna, the Daisy Dukes, the mom jeans, and her current status as Eric Johnson's bride-to-be and fashion mogul. Still, in a new interview with Redbook, the 33-year-old mom (to daughter Maxi, 1, and son Ace, 6 months) revealed a few new surprises about herself.
1. She really loved being pregnant, despite all the headlines talking about her weight.
When the interviewer asked about how she felt when the media focused on
her growing body, the singer sounded off. "I never listen to it, no
matter who the press talks about when they’re pregnant," she said. "It's
ridiculous and unfair. I think any woman who is pregnant and creating a
life is pretty much entitled to eat whatever she wants as long as she's
healthy. I wasn't going to let the media take away from what was one of
the happiest times in my life." Sounds like a good philosophy!
2. She's still mad about the much-discussed mom jeans incident.
Can you blame her? The star was seriously ridiculed in 2009 after she
played a concert in denim that did nothing for her figure. "What's so
unbelievable is that I was probably at least 15 pounds smaller than I am
right now," she noted. "What's more unbelievable is that the press
could create something so crazy out of a pair of jeans. What woman wants
to be brought down for that?" She's got a point.
3. She believes that love is not all you need. Simpson, who was married to Nick Lachey
from 2002-2006, is still an optimist when it comes to matters of the
heart; She and Johnson plan to wed this year. However, she knows now
that good chemistry doesn't necessarily make for a great relationship.
"I've learned that sometimes love is not enough. You can have a soul
mate and be madly in love with that person, but it's not necessarily
enough," she shared. "I think you have to have personalities that mesh
well. You have to be the yin to their yang. You also have to be open to
figuring things out together and communicating — even when it's the last
thing you want to do. I have to admit, it doesn't hurt that Eric is one
of the hottest men I've ever seen — and he looks amazing naked!"
Nope, that doesn't hurt at all!
