Former Real Madrid winger Robinho opened the scoring in the first half before Lionel Messi equalised for the visitors 15 minutes later.
The replacement to the injured Christian Abbiati was pleased with the Rossoneri's performance and the ensuing point.
"We did well tonight, we were compact and allowed little room for the Catalans," Amelia told Sky Sport Italia after the match.
"We will take this point to move forward in the Champions League, it will be important to qualify from the group stage.
"We had a couple of chances to score, but we are happy with the draw. We played well in this game against a very strong team."
Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo, however, thought his side played as well as they had done in the 2-0 win in the last-16 of the competition last season, and was therefore disappointed not to pick up three points.
"We think that the game from last year was played the same as tonight: they had great possession, we played on the break," the Italy international said.
"It's a positive result, but I'm sorry because we could have won. If we play as a team we can win against anybody.
"Our attitude was right. Kaka today had a great match, he had a hand in the counter-attack but clearly did not have the legs for 90 minutes."
Milan now sit on five points in Group H - two points behind Barca, two points ahead of Celtic and four points clear of Ajax.
