Let me break it down for you. First of all let me introduce to you, the coolest app ever; the MTN Songstar. This amazing app enables you convert your mobile phone into a digital karaoke machine. You simply download a track from MTN Songstar’s digital catalog of backing tracks and lyrics of the latest and most popular Nigerian and international songs, and you can sing-along-to your favorite songs even while recording your brilliant performance. What’s more, you let the whole world see how much talent you’ve got by sharing your recording on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. You really can become a SongStar from the comfort of your bathroom while having fun.

So you already get to have fun with the app, but when you enter the MTN Songstar competition, that’s when it really gets interesting.
Let’s get you started:

1. Click here to see if your phone is compatible (for now, the application is only available to smart phones running on Android OS versions 2.3 and above, Blackberry OS 6 & 7and the Nokia Asha series. Soon to be available on Blackberry10 & iPhone!)
2. Use your MTN line (it’s only available on the MTN Network)
3. Log onto the MTN NextApp store ( you may need to register if this is your first time)
4. Download and install MTN SongStar from the MTN NextApps Store.
5. Open the MTN SongStar application on your phone, and register - it’s very easy!
6. Click on Store to visit the amazing catalog of songs from Naija Hip Hop, RnB, Classic, Pop, Rap and even Wacky songs
7. Download any track of your choice from the rich library of karaoke songs pre-installed on the App. (Your first download is FREE!)
8. Once you have downloaded any song, it appears on your Record list
9. Click on any of your downloaded songs and sing along to the track, just like a star! (It will record your entire performance including video and audio, so remember to put your best face on!)
10. Save your performance, and you’re ready to Share!
11. Select YouTube to share onto the MTN Youtube channel
12. Encourage your friends and family to view your MTN Songstar video performances on the MTN YouTube channel.
13. Remember: you will need to share (upload) your performances before the competition cut-off date each month (see dates on item 18 below) to qualify for that month’s competition.
14. Note:You can upload as many performances per month as you like, but each performance will be judged on the number of views it receives; only one performance (the one with the highest views) per person will be considered per month.
    
15. Each month, as soon as the cut-off date is over, 10 winners will emerge based on performances that generated the highest number of views. So it’s important to get your friends, family and homies to view your performance on YouTube once you’ve uploaded it.
16. The contestant with the highest number of views in the month will be the Overall Winner for that month, and will win a brand new Kia Cerato!
17. Nine other contestants with the next highest views will also win mouth-watering prizes each month, namely September, October and November 2013.
18. Below are the cut-off dates before which you should share your performance on the MTN YouTube channel to be eligible to win the monthly prizes:

19. Note: Any person that wins any prize during the periods stated above will not be eligible for consideration in any other prize draws during these 3 MTN Songstar competition periods, whether or not you upload performances in subsequent months during these 3 periods.
20. Did we already mention: the GRAND PRIZE is a Porsche Cayman and a record deal with Don Jazzy (oshé!). And how do you get to win this Machine-on-wheels?

• If you emerge a winner on any of the three months, then you automatically qualify to enter for the ultimate final to compete for the Porsche Cayman.

• You will be joined in this ultimate contest, by winners from the other months as well as three other winners who will be randomly selected from among those who participated in the MTN Songstar Contest.

• In the ultimate final, you will get the opportunity to feature in a televised massive live concert as you compete alongside other talented Nigerians for the Grand Prize before a panel of judges (wow, your career has taken off already!)

• Remember, the judges will be looking to see how good your stage-craft is - how talented you are and how well you can hold an audience captive with your rendition and stage performance. So need I add that you must pull out all the stops and deliver an exceptional performance?
