The Elder Scrolls Online taps impressive, geeky voice cast

Bethesda's not fooling around when it comes to voice casting for its upcoming online role-playing game.

The developer has tapped a former member of Monty Python, a Golden Globe winner, Dumbledore and Wonder Woman to help bring The Elder Scrolls Online to life.

Former Pythoner John Cleese will lead the cast as Cadwell, who Bethesda describes as "a cheerful and endearingly mad lost soul." Joining him will be aforementioned Globe winner Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon (best known as Dumbledore in "Harry Potter"), Kate Beckinsale ("Underworld"), Alfred Molina ("Spider-Man 2"), and Malcolm McDowell (a million things, most of them awesome).
And, reprising her role as Azura, the Daedric Princess of Dusk and Dawn from The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, will be Lynda Carter, star of the 1970s "Wonder Woman" TV show. Carter also happens to be married to Robert Altman, chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda.

"This extraordinary group of actors helps bring the distinctive characters in The Elder Scrolls Online to life," said Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online. "In The Elder Scrolls tradition, we sought world class talent to add a deep and enriching component to the immersive world the series offers players."
So who's doing what? Here's a rundown:
  • Nighy will give voice to a merchant prince who won the throne.
  • Beckinsale plays Queen Ayrenn, the leader of the Aldmeri Dominion and Queen of the High Elves. (In typical form, expect a fair bit of combat from her.)
  • Molina is Abnur Tharn, a wizard/politician who heads the Empire’s Elder Council.
  • Gambon is 'The Prophet,' a mysterious character who will guide you through your journey to retrieve your soul.
  • McDowell will inhabit Molag Bal, an evil Daedric god from another plane who -- as evil gods do -- wants to enslave mortal souls in Tamriel
The Elder Scrolls Online will be out April 4, 2014 on PC and Mac. It hits the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June.
