NBC has gotten a jumpstart on their 2014-15 TV season, announcing another live musical event with "Peter Pan Live!" coming in December and two notable miniseries, including "Emerald City," based on the L. Frank Baum book series.
A
darker retelling, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt
described their take — which will follow a "headstrong" 20-year-old
Dorothy Gale — as "more thrilling" and at the Television Critics
Association press tour, saying that Dorothy will find herself at the
center of an "epic" and bloody battle. The miniseries will be 10
episodes long, with the possibility of future seasons given the ample
source material.
"'Emerald City' could be over after 10 episodes, but given the books there are to draw on, it could be on for five years," Greenblatt said.
NBC
also announced "The Slap," an eight-episode miniseries that chronicles
what happens after a child is slapped at a family barbeque, including
the ensuing legal proceedings in this very politically correct time we
live in.
