A message from the Student Union President, Uniuyo - Luckyimoh Inyang

Great Nigerian Students! In response to a letter I wrote to the University Management calling for the urgent release of our students in prison and for a round table discussion with students leaders to chat the way forward, we ( SUG excos/ parliament, traditional rulers council, NANS VP Special duties and other dtudent leaders) today presented the following demands to the management on behalf of the entire students:
1. That all our students in prison be release in the shortest possible time.
2. Immortalization of Late Kingsley Udoette in University of Uyo
3. That June 12 of every year be set aside by the university for students solemn assembly to reflect on the sad incidence which led to the death of our colleague and pray against future reoccurrence.
4. That two weeks registration policy be abolished and enough time be allowed for registration each semester.
5. That since the union and the entire students were not briefed before the N2000 GST registration was introduced, it should be suspended till adequate consultations have been made with the students.
6. That in as much as there has not been any significant improvements in the condition of our hostel since the accommodation fee was increased, we want the accommodation fee to be reverted to at most, N5000.
7. That the students health insurance scheme under Zenith Medicare which the students approved since last year be allowed to run.
8. That the students union be allowed to review the N1billion SUG secretariat plan and commence work asap.
9. That Union should be given the right to regulate vendors on campus.
10. That students union should negotiate with transport companies to put in place a future bus shuttle favourable to the students.
11. Proper necessities be put on ground at main campus to aid effective relocation of students.
12. That the students have lost confidence in the ability of the Dean students affairs to adequately channel our grievances to the management which he represents.
The above demands were presented to management today as the way forward. You will agree with me that these demands are realistic enough for any 'sensitive' and progressive minded management to grant. We have resolved that the death of our comrades must not be in vain. Things must change for the better.
Long live University of Uyo!
Long live Tuskers' Republic!!
Aluta Continua...Victoria Acerta!!!
