The
Chief Imam of Nupe Central Mosque, Kaduna, Malam Mohammad Nafi’u, on
Friday commended the Federal Government and university lecturers for
resolving their differences over the Academic Staff Union of
Universities’ five-month old strike.
Nafi’u made the commendation in his Jumaa’at Sermon in Kaduna.
ASUU had embarked on the strike on July 1
to demand the implementation of the 2009 agreement the government
entered into with it, among other demands.
Nafi’u said that it was important that the matter was resolved so that students could go back to school.
The clergyman described education as the
bedrock of development and urged both the government and ASUU to take
education every seriously.
Nafi’u advised the government to always
be proactive on issues that could disrupt the education system, and said
that ASUU must equally be patriotic in ensuring standards and high
quality of education in the country.
He called on parents to always discharge their responsibility of ensuring properly moral upbringing of their children.
“If parents fail to perform their duty, God Almighty will ask them on the day of accountability,” Nafi’u said.
He urged Muslims to pray for the country and to live in peace and harmony with their neighbours.
